Gabrielle Mary Serafini
Gabrielle Serafini is a health-care professional whose passion to serve has taken her around the globe to witness many transformational events of the past three decades: from the fall of the Berlin Wall to the restoration of Estonia’s independence amid the collapse of the Soviet Union; to the release of Nelson Mandela, the rise of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the end of apartheid and the first democratic election in South Africa; to the horrors of genocide in Rwanda and post-election violence in Kenya. Through two decades of cultural and professional engagement, Africa has captured her heart and embedded an appreciation for diversity and a deep understanding of the daily health challenges faced by millions. Inspired by a vision to provide equitable access to health care for those most in need, she co-founded WelTel Inc., a social enterprise focused on leveraging digital technology to provide quality health care for all, including the world’s most marginalized, and ensuring that no person is left behind. She continues to strengthen ties in Rwanda with the successful launch of WelTel’s game changing digital health technology during the COVID pandemic on a national scale, and with Indigenous communities in Canada and New Zealand for equitable access to wellbeing services. Gabrielle’s lived personal experience drives her to lead the company authentically, in directions that improve the way health care is delivered around the world. Social entrepreneurship is both challenging and rewarding, and expanding WelTel’s reach has become one of the most exciting and important journeys of her life.
